TAFE FACULTY OF ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER STUDIES ANNUAL EXHIBITION

An annual exhibition presenting the rich visual culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in current works of students, including paintings, works on paper, printmaking, 3D works and textiles.

Northern Journey - Craig Hoy, 2006 Craig Hoy: Northern Horizons

Hoy explores the effects of ‘living in’ and ‘seeing’ the landscape focussing on the illusionary nature of horizons. Hoy paints in an abstract style using a variety of mixed media.

Wilkins Hill, Installation, 2004 From Space to Place - IASKA WA
6 April - 20 May 2007

Space becomes a place when, an individual, a community, a people give it a form, a name and a history.Marco Marcon, 2005. The exhibition features works by 16 or Australia’s most exciting emerging contemporary artists including photography, video, sculpture and perfomance created from the artist’s direct engagement with the spaces and places they inhabited in rural WA.

Tijn Meulendijks: Untitled installation
6 April - 20 May 2007

An installation using Calamus Mottii (wait-a-while vine and earth on board). Wait-a-while drops and weaves its spikey vines across the forest floor and from tree to tree. The barbs of this robust vine hook into shirts, trousers and socks, forcing intrepid bushwalkers to slow down, take their time through the undergrowth….wait-a-while.

The spirit, soul and inner self are the inspiration for this body of work by local artist, Madsen-Pietsch. An exhibition of abstract works in mixed mediums using techniques such as stitching, collage, painting, drawing, printmaking and assemblage.

Karen Gibson: Women’s Business

Gibson paints the stories of her female ancestor’s, the Kuku Yalanji Bama women of the Daintree. Gibson was the recipient of the 2006 Heather Blair Award and is featured in the book Gatherings 2.

Art Bank 25 years

Artbank, the Australian Government art rental initiative, is at the forefront of collecting contemporary art and craft from Australia’s emerging and established Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists. 61st Annual Cairns Art Society Exhibition

Founded in 1931, the Cairns Art Society is celebrating its 76th Anniversary, of which one of a number of highlights will be its 61st Annual Open Art Exhibition. The annual exhibition enables Far North Queensland artists to have their work judged by prevailing Australian standards. The exhibition is a showcase of competition finalists selected from local, state and national entrants.

Likeness: Portraiture from the Collection

Roy McIvor: Retrospective

Roy McIvor works and lives in Hopevale and is an elder of the Binthi people. Roy's work reflects a composite of personal and community stories whilst exploring colour and form. This exhibition surveys Roy's paintings and print works.

Hey Baby - Robyn Baker

Through the medium of acrylic paint, Baker explores the meaning and terminology behind the commonly used phrase, Hey Baby. Baby emerged in the 20thC as a term of endearment and it has since become involved in the Australian vernacular.

Low Isles: Fragile Sanctuary - Art House Port Douglas

This exhibition was inspired by a Low Isles Preservation Society visit to the islands to witness the annual coral spawning. The resulting artworks by 12 artists metaphorically reflect coral spawning through exploring renewal, fecundity and abundance in nature.
