Cairns Regional Gallery is a leader in the education sector in FNQ. Major collaborative projects initiated through the Gallery provide students of all ages with opportunities to work with professional artists and to learn about visual art in a museum context. Both adults and children have access to learning through workshops, floor talks, art demonstrations, lectures and guided tours.

The Gallery has a strong positive relationship with teachers at all major educational institutions in Far North Queensland and provides significant support through education kits, excursions to the Gallery, practical workshops, and regular information updates in the form of teacher briefings and flyers.

SCHOOL TOURS

School tours are available Monday to Friday from 8.30am - 5.00pm. Schools are required to book their gallery visit through the Public Programs Manager at least 5 days prior to attendance. It is advised to book early so that supporting information on current exhibitions can be provided prior to the visit.

A Program Highlights poster is produced each October for the following year’s exhibition schedule. Schools are advised to use the calendar to plan future visits. A copy of the poster can be obtained free of charge by contacting the Gallery.

The fee for primary and secondary school groups is $1 per person. Tertiary students ‘group rate is $2 per person. Teachers and up to 4 carers per 20 students are free.

Maximum group size is 30 students per session; however, this may vary depending on the student age and the nature of the exhibitions on display.
